Frodas
Imagined flowers, composed like a bouquet on the first warm day.
The flowers came first
Frodas started with somebody else's tablecloth, in a guest house Karolina was staying in. Its pattern barely resembles Frodas today, but the soft, slightly bulging shapes at its edges were enough to set her drawing. She drew the flowers first, a whole cast of imagined, unspecified species, composed loosely, almost like a bouquet, and let the leaves grow in around them afterwards. Nothing about it is meant to sit still. It's meant to feel like a flower meadow in spring, at its most generous week, before anyone's had the chance to tidy it.
Frodas, before the wall

The first sketch. One flower at a time, drawn loose before the rest of the bouquet was imagined in around it.

Moving to the screen. The bouquet took shape digitally, one stem at a time, with company that wasn't always helpful.

The colour study. Yellow against blue, tried out by hand before it went anywhere near the press.

Mixing the colour. Each shade is mixed and adjusted by hand on the palette before it is committed to a colourway.
