The pattern

Frodas is Karolina's newest pattern, and by her own account the one she's most attached to. Imagined flowers, drawn loose and layered like a spring bouquet, with the leaves grown in around them after.

The colourway

Primavera is named for the Italian word for spring, and it's the colourway Karolina loves most of everything she's drawn. She wanted it to feel like living inside a flower bouquet: a lot of colour, held together softly rather than competing. The green sits deep in the background, warmed by darker and blue-tinted leaves, with the reds and pinks left clear and bright. She likes that the flowers are entirely imagined and still feel familiar.

The making

Surface print, what Swedish printers call limtryck: thick distemper paint, laid onto the paper by engraved rollers, leaving a slightly embossed surface. It is done at Ulricehamns Tapetfabrik, in the same workshop, with the same technique, that prints Josef Frank's wallpapers for Svenskt Tenn.

The small registration shifts between rolls, the slight changes in density from one colour to the next: that is the hand at work. A digital press never makes those marks. We keep them. On purpose.

Note about the images shown: the close-ups are real, photographed from our printed rolls and faithful to the pattern, structure and colour. The room scenes are illustrations, composed with AI. Our traditional printing technique means small differences belong to the craft, and no screen shows colour quite as it is. To see a colourway as it really is, order an A4 sample.
